Ich bin nicht nur privat sehr viel auf Achse sondern bin auch in der glücklichen Position mit einem so coolen Job verwöhnt zu sein, der mich schon an viele tolle Orte brachte, und hoffentlich auch in Zukunft noch bringt. So z.B. geschehen im Feburar 2013, also ich zur Audi ice experience nach Finnland durfte.
I am not only travelling in my spare time. I am also spoilt with a great job where I am supposed to travel to amazing places from time to time. So it happend in Feb. 2013 that I could join the Audi ice experience in Finland.
Inspiriert bin ich für den heutigen Blog von den -14°C, die gerade draussen herrschen. Also zieht euch warm an, wir fliegen jetzt nach Finnland.
This blog is inspired by todays outdoor temperature -14°C. So get some cozy, warm clothes on, we are heading towards Finland.
Der Flug ging bequem ab München über Helsinki nach Kittilä. Von dort brachte uns dann ein Bus in das 45 Minuten entfernte Dörfchen Muonio. Damit befanden wir uns dann 200 km nördlich vom Polarkreis. Also ziemlich weit oben.
The travelling was very easy from Munich via Helsinki to Kittilä. From there a bus picked us up and drove us 45 minutes up to Muonio. Muonio is 200 km northern the polar circle. So pretty on top of everything.
Mit dem Wetter hatten wir Glück. Um diese Jahrszeit kann es bis zu -40°C haben, und auch die Woche vor unserer Anreise hatte es immer noch stattliche -34°C, doch kaum bin ich vor Ort, hat es nur noch -10°C. Ja, wenn Engel verreisen. 🙂
We were quiet lucky with the weather. At this time of the year the temperature can go down to -40°C, and even a week before we arrived the thermometer said -34°C. But as soon as I got there it changed in -10°C. What can I say: when angels travel. 🙂
Der Anreisetag war nur mit einem gemütlichen Abendessen und einer ersten Instruktion für den Ablauf geprägt. Dann konnte jeder in sein Zimmer, mit eigenem Whirlpool und Sauna. Oh ja, this is how we do it!
Arrival-day itself was not very busy. Dinner and first instructions for the upcoming days. And then I went to my hotelroom with my own Jacuzzi and my own Sauna. Oh yes, this is how we do it!
Der Vormittag an Tag 2 hatte eine Snowmobil Safari mit der Fa. Lapland Safaris auf dem Programm. Ich oute mich jetzt gleich mal als kein Freund von großen Geschwindigkeiten, vor allem wenn keine dicke Schicht Stahl um mich herum ist. So ein Snowmobil geht um die 70 km/h, wenn man es denn genau wissen will. Und da unsere Gruppe aus ansonsten nur geschwindigkeitsfanatischen Männern bestand, war das vorgelegte Tempo des Guides entsprechend.
Day 2 was started with a snowmobile safari by Lapland Safaris. I should tell you right away that I don’t like speedy things, especially when I’m not surrounded by a chassy made out of steel. A snowmobile makes it up to 70 km/h. And our group were a couple of speed-addiced man, and me. So you can image what speed it was we had during this safari.
Wir waren so ca. 10 Snowmobile und fuhren durch viele Wälder und über zugefrorene Seen. Da heißt es, nicht den Anschluß zu verlieren, also immer schön Vollgas. Die ersten 15 Minuten dachte ich tatsächlich, dass ich sterbe – und zugleich, dass ich dieses Gerät lenken kann. Nach dieser Zeit konnte ich meine Arme und Schultern nicht mehr spüren und war in meinem Thermoanzug klitschnass geschwitzt (vor Angst und ein bisschen auch wegen der Anstrengung. Ach was sag ich: Todesangst war der Grund.). Dann hab ich einfach aufgegeben … mit meinem Leben abgeschlossen eigentlich und hab nur noch Gas gegeben, nur um dann festzustellen, das ich gar nicht lenken musste. Da die Vordermänner mit Ihren Mobilen schon eine Spur in den Schnee gefahren hatten blieb mein Snowmobil sowieso in deren Pfad.
Lange Rede kurzer Sinn: hab die Nummer überlebt und hatte am Ende sogar noch richtig Spaß.
We were app. 10 snowmobiles and drove through many forrests and over frozen lakes. So I had to keep up with my group which meant to hold the eccelerator on maximum. The first 15 minutes I was sure that I will not gonna make it and just die (seriously), and I tried to keep control in direction. After that 15 minutes that felt like a lifetime I couldn’t feel my arms nor my shoulders and I was sweating so bad (cause I was afraid to death, and i was exhausted, and I was afraid to death), so I gave up; gave up in trying to give direction just to find out that this wasn’t neccessary in the first place. My snowmobile followed the track of the snowmobile in front of me so I just had to accelerat and try not to fell off.
The longer the speech, the less thought: I really enjoyed it in the end.
Nachmittags war dann Driften angesagt. Im Audi S5 Sportback auf einem zugefrorenen See auf insgesamt 7 km präperierter Strecke. Der große Drifter werde ich wohl nicht mehr werden, aber ich musste ja keinen Abschlusstest schaffen.
In the afternoon we went drifting with an Audi S5 Sportback on a frozen lake on 7 km prepared course. I will never be a great drifter but there was no test to succeed so I was fine.
Tag 3 sollte mein liebster Lieblingstag werden. Vormittags waren wir wieder auf der Eisfläche und wandten unsere am Vortag gelernten Drift-Kenntnisse an. Und nachmittags ging es zu einer Husky-Farm mit anschließender Schlittenhund-Rundfahrt. Mein (menschlicher *gg*) Schlitten-Partner für den Nachmittag hatte eine tolle Spiegelreflexkamera dabei und hat diese sensationellen Fotos gemacht. Ich für meinen Teil durfte dafür die ganze Strecke – so 2-3 Stunden – den Schlitten fahren. Wobei man hier keine großartigen Kenntnisse braucht. Man stelle sich sechs bellende, zähnefletschende Huskys vor, die darauf programmiert sind zu rennen rennen rennen rennen. Und solange der Schlitten steht beißen die sich gegenseitig und bellen und verheddern sich in Ihren Schnüren, etc. Dann kam das OK vom Guide, der mit einem Snowmobil voraus fuhr und dann bin ich nur von der Bremse und schrie „EY“ und die pretschten los. Möchte man stehen bleiben muss man mit vollem Gewicht auf die Bremse und dann hält man iiiiiiiirgendwann. Möchte man dann wieder los geht man nur von der Bremse und schreit wieder und auf geht’s.
Day 3 was ment to be my favourite day. In the moring we went drifting again, to show our skills we learned the day before. In the afternoon we went to a Husky-Farm and made a sledge dog ride. My (human *gg*) partner on the sledge had a reflex camera with him so he took all this amazing pictures. And he didn’t want to switch places so I could ride the sledge the whole time – 2-3 hours in a total.
There are no special skills needed for riding a husky sledge. You just need to know how to break. This dogs are programmed to run run run run. So as long as they were waiting for the tour to start they were barking and growling and snarling. But as soon as we started I just got of the break and shouted „EY“ and they ran. The harder part is to stop again. You need to get your whole weight on the break and wait and on one point the sledge stops. To continue you just need to get of the break and scream „EY“ (probably every noise works) and they run again.
Ich hätte das den ganzen Tag machen können. Und dann diese Kulisse. Diese Weiten von unberührtem, tiefem Schnee, Sonnenschein, und nur das Geräusch des Schlittens im Schnee. Unfassbar genial !!
Als wir zurück auf der Farm waren machten wir dann noch eine Führung durch diese. Am Ende bekam ich einen 4 Monate alten Husky auf den Arm und was soll ich sagen: es war Liebe auf den ersten Blick. Ich meinte, seht ihn euch an!
I wish I could have done that the whole day. And then that scenery. All that untouched, deep snow, sunshine, and just the sound of the sledge in the snow. Un-f***-believable!
When we came back to the husky farm they showed us around and on one point they gave me a 4 month old husky baby. What can I say: it was love at first sight. I mean, look at him!
Hab alles versucht, doch konnte ihn nicht gut genug unter meinem Skianzug verstecken um ihn mitzunehmen. Gerade heute bei dem Wetter hätte ich nämlich einen Husky gut gebrauchen können.
Ich muss das jetzt einfach sagen: scheiße, dieser Tag war vielleicht geil!
I tried everything to hide him under my jacket to bring him home. Especially on a day like today I could need a husky.
Excuse my language but I have to say it: this was one fucking amazing day!
Noch völlig euphorisch und zufrieden und begeistert vom Vortag ging es am 4. und Abreisetag am Vormittag nochmal auf die Eisfläche. Und weil es ja noch nicht spektakulär genug war durften wir das Event mit einem Helikopterflug beenden. Wir flogen über die Eisfläche, jagten Autos auf dieser und das für so 15 Minuten.
Still completely stunned and enthusiastic and satisfied from the husky experience we went on the 4th and departured day back on the ice. And because it wasn’t spectacular enough already there was a helicopter waiting for us to fly over the lake and chase cars like James Bond. And that for round about 15 minutes.
Und dann mussten wir auch schon Abschied nehmen, von dem Spitzen-Team der Audi ice experience, von Muonio, vom Schnee, der Eisfläche und Finnland.
And then it was time to say goodbye to the amazing Audi ice experience team, to Muonio, to the snow ’n ice and to Finland.
Sollte es sich je wieder ergeben, möchte ich unbedingt eine länge Schlittenhund-Ausfahrt machen. Das hat mich echt nachhaltig geprägt. Und so lange zähre ich von der Erinnerung.
If I ever get the change I will so come back for another husky sledge ride. That was really very special. And I will keep that in my mind till I return.
