Seit vielen Jahren höre ich mir nun schon an, dass Barcelona soooo cool ist, dass das ja genau meine Stadt sein würde und dass ich da unbedingt mal hin muss. Grundsätzlich gebe ich darauf nicht viel, doch wenn die richtigen Leute erstmal zum glühenden Verehrer einer Großstadt werden ist meine Neugier dann doch geweckt. Also hab ich mich mit einer lieben Kollegin und Freundin in dieses Abenteuer gewagt … und wir wurden nicht enttäuscht.
For many years now I have to listen to all this stories about Barcelona, and how amaaaaazing it is, and that it would be my city and that I have to go there. Usually I don’t care to much about peoples advice about travel destinations, except some people. And if they adore a place so much, well then they have my attention. So I dared … acually we did, me and a dear colleague and friend … and Barcelona didn’t disappoint us.
Grundsätzlich bin ich einer Stadt immer gerne vier Tage – drei Nächte. Das ist die perfekte Zeit um sich zu orientieren, um sich ausreichend umzusehen und um sich zu verlieben … in die Stadt versteht sich. Vier Tage reichen um festzustellen ob man zeitnah wieder kommen mag, ob man sich wohl fühlt, um seinen Lieblingsplatz zu finden, sein Lieblingslokal und natürlich um mindestens eine erfolgreiche Shoppingtour zu machen.
In general four days are perfect for a city – three nights. Thats enough time to get oriented, to look around and to fall in love … into the city of course. Four days to figure out if you wanna come back, if you feel comfortable, to find your favourite spot, your favourite restaurant and to make at least one successful shoppingtour.
Wir hatten einen frühen, direkten Flug ab München. Die Stadt hat netterweise die U-Bahn-Linie Nr. 2 Süd noch kurz vor unserer Ankunft fertig gestellt, sodass wir vom Flughafen El Prat direkt zum Placa Espanya und von dort zum Placa Catalunya fahren konnten. Insgesamt 45 Minuten später und wir waren in unserem perfektem Hotel. Das Catalonia Portal de l’Angel liegt direkt am Placa Catalunya, in einer Querstraße zur La Rambla, 5 Minuten zur Casa Battlo und ebenso 5 Minuten zum besten Restaurant aller Zeiten, dem El National. Also ja, per-fekt!
We had an early and direct flight from Munich. The City of BCN was kind enough to finish the airport metro line, so we could easily get from El Prat to Placa Espanya and from there to Placa Catalunya. It took us 45 minutes to arrive at our perfect hotel, the Catalonia Portal de l’Angel which is right at the Placa Catalunya, a crossroad of La Rambla, a 5 minutes walk from Casa Battlo and also 5 minutes walking distance to the best restaurant ever, the El National. So yes, per-fect!
Ich war noch nie in einer derart von Touristen überfüllten Stadt, doch das liegt vmtl. daran, das in Barcelona laufend 2-3 Kreuzfahrtschiffe anlegen. Tausende von Leute bahnen sich also einen Weg durch die Stadt und versuchen in einem Tag alle Highlights zu sehen. Hier gilt es also viel Zeit mitzubringen, oder vorbereitet zu reisen. Ich persönlich bevorzuge die effiziente Variante Nr. 2, dh. wir hatten eine Barcelona Pass mit einer Vorreservierung für die Sagrada Familia und der Casa Gaudi im Park Güell.
I have never been in a city that overcrowded from cruiser-tourists. There are probably always 2-3 cruisers in the harbour of Barcelona and everyday thousands of people that try to visit the hot spots of the city. So bring time with you, or you are prepared. I prefer the more efficient way no. 2 which means, we had a Barcelona Pass with reservations for Sagrada Familia and Casa Gaudi at Park Güell.
To Do’s:
Sagrada Familia – ja unbedingt. Wenn man zwischen 8 und 9 Uhr kommt, oder abends ab ca. 18 Uhr kann man auch in die Krypta gehen, in welcher Gaudi seine letzte Ruhe gefunden hat, und in welcher wohl auch eine Ausstellung über den vormaligen Bauherren ist. Wir waren zur Mittagszeit, hatten also leider keinen Zugang. Das nächste Mal würde ich außerdem einen Audio Guide nehmen, der war beim Barcelona Pass Ticket leider nicht inkludiert, und den konnte man dann vor Ort auch nicht mehr kaufen. Allerdings musste wir auch keine Minute anstehen, was uns den Ausflug wiederum sehr versüßt hat.
Diese Kirche selbst ist unbeschreiblich. Einen spirituelleren Ort wird man selten finden.
Sagrada Familia – yes definitely. When you visit between 8 and 9 a.m. or around 6 p.m. you are supposed to visit the crypta, where Gaudi is burried and a exebition about his life takes place. We were there around noon, so we missed it unfortunately. Next time I would always take an audio guide, which was unfortunately not included in our Barcelona Pass ticket, and we couldn’t buy it afterwards. On the other hand we didn’t have to line up for a minute, so that was perfect!
The church itself left me speachless. Is there a more spiritual place?
Park Güell – die Casa Gaudi im Park Güell ist definitiv sehenswert, vor allem weil man dort sehr viele interessante Infos über das Bauprojekt an sich und den Park erfährt. Der Eintritt dorthin war im Barcelona Pass wiederum includiert also kein lästiges anstehen, und einen ersten Vorgeschmack auf Gaudi und den Park selbst.
Wir haben an einem Tag die Casa Gaudi in dem Teil des Park Güell gemacht, der kostenfrei betreten werden kann. Für den kostenpflichtigen Teil haben wir uns dann ein Ticket für den nächsten Morgen gekauft (geht nicht ohne Vorlauf), doch das war perfekt. Um 9 Uhr sind dort kaum Menschen und wir konnten den Sonnenaufgang über Barcelona beobachten. Magisch!
Park Güell – the Casa Gaudi at Park Güell is definitely worth to see, especially for the exhibition about the constructions project itself and the park. The entrance fee was in the Barcelona Pass included so we had a nice first impression of Gaudi and the Park itself.
We visited Casa Gaudi in the afternon, which is in the free-entrance-area and bought a ticket for the special part of the park where you have to pay entrance for the upcoming day 9 a.m. There were alomost no visitors and we watched the sunrise over Barcelona. Magical!
Casa Battlo – eine von Gaudis Stadthäusern, welches er für die Familie Battlo baute. Kostet zwar 20 EUR Eintritt, doch ist es definitiv wert. Man kann sich dort ganz leicht 1-2 Stunden aufhalten. Der Audio Guide ist dann inkludiert und hilfreich, um die ganzen Feinheiten dieses faszinierenden Bauwerks zu erkunden. Wenn man ein Spezialticket kauft, ist auf der Dachterasse ein Glas Sekt inkludiert. Auch dieses kann man dann vor Ort nicht mehr kaufen, das nächste Mal würde ich also den Aufpreis für das Ticket gerne zahlen.(Mit Barcelona Pass 3 EUR Nachlass auf den Eintritt, immerhin etwas :-))
Casa Battlo – one of Gaudi’s townhouses he built for the Battlo family. It’s 20 EUR entrance fee but worth it. You can spend 1 – 2 hours easily and the audio guide which is included is very helpful to understand the way Gaudi built this house. With a special ticket you get a glass of champagne on the roofterrace of the building, but you cannot buy it up there, so take the special ticket, it’s worth it for sure. (You safe 3 EUR entrance fee with the Barcelona Pass – better then nothing :-))
Hop on Hop Off – eine perfekte Art um die Stadt zu erkunden und preislich sicher ok. Im Barcelona Pass ist eine Eintagesfahrt inkludiert. Wenn die Kreuzfahrtschiffpassagiere die Stadt vereinahmen kann es zu unglaublich langen Warteschlangen beim Placa Catalunya kommen. Tipp: einfach zur nächsten Stadion 3 Blocks weiter gehen, dort war bei uns dann niemand und wir konnten problemlos zusteigen.
Hop on Hop off – a perfect way to explore the city – and cheaply as well. With the Barcelona Pass a one day ticket is already included. The cruiser-tourists fill up the busses so you might have to queue for a long time at Placa Catalunya. Just walk to the next bus stop just 3 blocks away and there are no people in line.
Altstadt – unbedingt einen ausgiebigen Spaziergang von Placa Catalunya Richtung Hafen machen und durch die vielen Gassen der Altstadt schlendern. Tolle Tapas Bars, tolle kleine Designerläden usw. zieren hier die Straßen. Achtung: Briefmarken nur bei der Poststelle und bei keinem der vielen kleinen Touristenläden kaufen. Sind keine Briefmarken, nur Sticker. Leider auf die harte Tour gelernt. (Und schreien hilft hier leider auch nicht, das habe ich versucht.)
Old Town – take a walk from Placa Catalunya to the harbour and wander through the small streets. There are great Tapas Bars and nice designer shops. But watch out: don’t buy stamps in one of the tourist shops. They are fake, just stickers actually. Learned that the hard way. (And jelling doesn’t help. I tried and failed.)
La Rambla – nicht schön, nicht sehenswert und unbedigt Tasche gut festhalten, hier sind die Taschendiebe unterwegs. Warum immer empfohlen wird, dass man dort hin soll ist mir schleierhaft.
La Rambla – not pretty, not worth to see and you have to hold on your belongings very carefully, there are pickpockets all over the place. I have no idea why it’s recommended in every single travelbook.
Placa Espanya – mit den Las Arenas, einem Shoppingzentrum in einer früheren Stierkampfarena, dem MNAC (Museu National d’Art de Catalunya) und dem Font Magica, einem Brunnen, bei welchem am Wochenende (schaut hier in euren Reiseführern nach den genauen Zeiten) eine Licht- und Musikshow statt findet. Letzteres haben wir leider verpasst, das machen wir nächstes Mal.
Placa Espanya – with Las Arenas, a mall in a former bullfight arena, MNAC (Museu National d’Art de Catalunya) and Font Magica, where a light- and musicshow takes place every weekend in the evening (check your travelbook for the schedule). We missed it unfortunately, but I make it next time for sure.
Seilbahn Torre de San Sebastian – fährt über den Hafen zum Montjuic. Schöner Ausblick auf BCN von dort oben, aber sicher kein Muss auf der To Do Liste.
Cable Railway Torre de San Sebastian – crosses the harbour on it’s way to Montjuic. It’s a nice viewpoint up there, but nothing you have to do.
Lokaltipps: es gibt in Barcelona so viele geniale Tapas Bars und Restaurants, das man sicher ein Jahr brauchen würde, um alles auszuprobieren. Hier ist Tripadvisor sicher hilfreich. Folgende Lokale wurden von uns getestet und für perfekt erachtet:
Foodtipps: there are so many great Tapas Bars and restaurants in Barcelona that it would take a year or so to try them all. Tripadvisor is here helpful for sure. We tried the following restaurants and were overwhelmed:
Filburg: Das Lachs-Avocada-Tartar hat mein Leben verändert! The salmon-avocado-tartar changed my life.
Orio: Die Krabben-Eier-Tapas sind wie ein Bissem vom Himmel! The crab-egg-tapas are like a peace of heaven.
El National: Ich habe La Taperia, La Braserie und La Llotja getesten und war be-geistert! Hatte dort geniale Tappas, das beste Steak das ich jemals hatte und ein sensationelles Thunfish-Avocada-Tartar.
Und unbedingt die Toiletten ansehen. Wie eine Zeitreise. Einfach genial. I tried the La Taperia, La Braserie and La Llotja and were over-whelmed! Had great tapas, the best Steak I had in my life and a sensational tuna-avocado-tartar.
And go and see the restrooms. Like timetravelling. Amazing!
Hard Rock Cafe: Ein Muss in jeder Stadt. Habe inzwischen mein 14. HRC besucht und bin noch lange nicht fertig. A must in every city. This was my 14th HRC and there are many ahead.
Ocana – am Placa Reial, dem angeblich schönsten Platz Barcelonas. Abends herrliches Ambiente für Essengehen oder einen Drink. On Placa Reial, the most beautiful Placa in Barcelona they say. Lovely in the evening for dinner or a drink.
Mein Fazit: Sehenswert: ja. Coole Stadt: ja. Gutes Essen: oh ja! Verliebt: das geht nur mich und Barcelona was an. 🙂
In a nutshell: Worth to see: yes. Cool City: yes. Good Food: hell yes. In love: that’s between Barcelona and me. 🙂
