Rom – die ewige Stadt

Sicher gehört Rom zu einer der Top 10 Städte, welchen man in seinem Leben einmal bereisen sollte. Jetzt lese ich auch noch sehr viele Mittelalterromane, in welchen Rom immer eine Rolle spielt, da diese Stadt schon seit mehr als 2000 Jahren Zentrum von Ruhm, Macht, Geld, Gelehrten, und und und ist. Und dennoch hat es mich kalt erwischt, hat mich Rom infiziert, begeistert und lässt mich nicht mehr los. Neugierig? Das solltet Ihr auch sein!

Sure, Rome is one of the Top 10 cities you should at least once in your life travel to. I also read lots of novels about the middleage, where Rome had always an important role to play, as this city stands for more then 2000 years for power, money, wisedom, … And still I got knocked of my feed, got Rome-infected, overwhelmed and can’t let it go. Curious? You should!

Bin mit zwei lieben Kolleginnen (im Dezember 2015) nach Rom aufgebrochen. Da schon vorher klar war, das wir einige Highlights auch von Innen betrachten wollen, haben wir uns schon im Vorfeld einen Rom City Pass gekauft. Und ich kann euch nur sagen: die BESTE Idee die wir jemals hatten. Wir haben uns allein durch die „Skip the Line“ Funktion ca. 1 Stunde anstehen im Kolosseum, 2-3 Stunden warten beim Vatikanischen Museum und ca. 2 Stunden warten beim Petersdom erspart. Ausserdem war 2 Tage Hop on Hop Off gratis dabei und auch beim Forum Romanum sind wir ganz charmant an der Warteschlange vorbei gegangen. Also gerade für Rom solltet Ihr euch das echt überlegen. I went with two colleagues  (in December 2015) to Rome. As we knew in advance that we were going to visit some of the highlights, we bought a Rome City Pass before we went. And that was the BEST idea ever. Just with „skip of line“ we saved ~1 hour lining up at the Colosseum, 2-3 hours at the Vatican Museum and around 2 hours at St. Peter’s. There were also included 2 days Hop On Hop Off, and at the Forum Romanum we could skip the line again. So especially for Rome I would recommend a Rome Pass. We were so happy about it. Unseren Anreisetag starteten wir mit einer Hop On Hop Off Tour, um gleich mal ein Gefühl für die Stadt zu bekommen. Abends hatte uns Regina, unser Versorungsoffizier quasi, einen Tisch in der Osteria Barberini reserviert. Gefunden auf Tripadvisor. Ich hatte einen Auberginen-Tomaten-Käse-Auflauf zur Vorspeise, Trüffel Tagliatelle mit Scampi zum Hauptgang und eine warmen Schokokuchen zum Nachtisch. OMG! So gut! Die Flasche Wein sollte noch erwähnt werden, die jeder von uns getankt hat. Schließlich ist man ja in Rom. Das schuldeten wir doch der Stadt, wegen der Trauben und der Tradition und so wär’s gewesen. Hab beim Heimweg dann, zweifelsohne beschwingt von der italienischen Luft und enthemmt vom italienischen Wein von einem der Bäume eine Manderine gepflückt. Eine Manderine. Im Dezember!

We started the arrival day with a Hop On Hop Off bustour, to get a feeling for the city right away. In the evening Regina – our commander in chief for food – made a reservation at the Osteria Barberini. She found the restaurant on Tripadvisor. I had a brinjal-tomato-cheese-souffle as a starter, Tagliattelle with Truffels and Scampi as main menu and a warm chocolate cake as dessert. OMG! So good! I should mention the bootle of wine each of us had, too. But that’s something we had to do, because of the grapes, and tradition, and so. On our walk home I picked, without doubt motivated by the italian air and the wine, a Clementine from a tree. A Clementine. In December!

Tag 2 begann mit der Besichtigung des Kolosseum. Auf dem 4. Bild sieht man die Warteschlange an welcher wir vorbei sind – um 9! Uhr morgens schon. Zur Erklärung: der Eintritt war an dem Tag sowieso frei, es ist die Taschenkontrolle die alles so staut.
Was soll ich zum Kolosseum selbst sagen, außer das es unpackbar ist. So genial. Ein so tragischer Schauplatz und doch so magisch. Kurz ein paar Fakten: Kaiser Vespasian ließt das Kolosseum 72 n. Chr. in Auftrag geben und bereits 80 n. Chr. war Eröffnung. Es fanden 55.000 Menschen dort Platz. Gladiatorenkämpfe wurden bis 404 n. Chr. durchgeführt, erst dann wurden Sie verboten.
80 n. Chr.: das ist fast 2000 JAHRE her. Das ist doch unfassbar bitte?! Ich bin immer noch ganz fertig.

We started day two with the Colosseum. On the 4th picture you can see the line that we skipped – at 9! a.m. Just for explanation: the entrance was for free, but what makes this line is the security control of all the bags, people are carrying.
What can I say about the Colosseum itself? It’s unbelievable. So amazing. I mean it’s a tragic place but still so magical.
Just some facts and figures: Emperor Vespasian built the Colosseum 72 a. Chr. –  80 a. Chr. It was made for 55.000 people. Gladiator fights ended in 404 a. Chr.
80 a. Chr.: that was almost 2000 years ago. Isn’t that unbelievable?! I am still speachless.

Vom Kontantinbogen nur ein paar Minuten entfernt ist das Forum Romanum. Dieses war ein Zentrum von Politik, Wirtschaft und Rechtssprechung. 46 v. Chr. ließ Julius Caesar das Forum erneuern. Ja erneuert, da waren schon Gebäude vorher, so seit 500 v. Chr. Wir haben da vmtl. noch in Höhlen gelebt und rohes Fleisch gegessen, wie Tiere, als man in Rom schon über Politik diskutiert hat und durch die Parks gelustwandelt ist. Unfassbar! Der ganze Bereich ist unfassbar. Man kann dort ganz leicht einige Stunden vertrödeln und umherwandern und überwältigt sein.

Just a few minutes from the Constantin Arch is the Forum Romanum. This was the center for politic, economy and judicature. 46 b. Chr. Julius Ceasar rebuilt the Forum. Yes, rebuilt. There were buildings already, since ~500 b. Chr. We used to life in caves by this time probably, like animials, and in Rome they discussed politics and strolled through the parks. Unbelievable. The whole area is unbelievable. It’s so easy to spend hours there, just wandering around and being overwhelmed.

Vom Forum Romanum nur einen Steinwurf entfernt ist das Il Vittoriano – das Denkmal für den ersten König des vereinten Italiens, Vittorio Emanuele II.
Nun sollten jedem aufgefallen sein, dass diese wundervollen Bauwerke alle nebeneinander sind. Also sogar für gehfaule Gesellen ist diese Stadt größtenteils auch gut zu Fuß erschließbar. Nun aber zum Denkmal. Meinem Lieblingsplatz. Ich muss es einfach wieder sagen: un-fass-bar!

Just around the corner of the Forum is the Il Vittoriano – the momument for the first king of the united Italy, Vittorio Emanuele II.
All this wonderful buldings are right next to each other. So even for lazy fellows most of the city is easy to explore by foot. But now back to the momument. My favourite spot. I just can repeat it over and over again: un-be-lievable!

 

Sind dann mit dem Hop on Hop Off Bus weiter zum Fontana di Trevi. Hab eine Münze rein geworfen … die mich fast erschlagen hat. Ich war einfach schon in der Schule ein mieserabler Werfer. Hoffe das zählt trotzdem, will ja wieder kommen.
Sollte man übrigens allein vor dem Trevi-Brunen sein wollen müsst man so um 4 Uhr morgens dort sein.

From there we went by Hop On Hop Off to Fontana di Trevi. I threw a coin in it … which almost felt back on my head. Back in school I sucked in throwing (balls) already. I hope it still counts, because I wanna come back to Rome for sure.
To be by yourself at the Fontanta di Trevi you have to be there around 4 a.m., just fyi. 

Was natürlich in keiner Stadt fehlen darf ich ein Besuch im Hard Rock Cafe und Shoppen. Beiden Herausforderungen mit Bravur gestellt. Und dann ist da auch noch ein Laduree Paris in der Innenstadt. OMG, oder wie ich in Rom ständig zu sagen pflegt: unfassbar.

A big to-do in every city is of course going to the HRC and shopping. We faced this challenges successfully. And then there was this Laduree Paris in the city center. OMG, or as I always say in Rome: unbelievable!

Abendessen waren wir dann im herrlichen La Base, welches Regina wieder für uns aufgetan hatte. Spaghetti Carbonara für 6,50 EUR. Und die richtigen Carbonara, nicht das, was sie uns beim deutschen Italiener dafür weis machen wollen. Waren gleich den nächsten Abend nochmal dort, denn außer das es dort super lecker und das Ambiente der Hammer war, war es fast gegenüber von unserem Hotel.

We had dinner at the La Base, Regina found at Tripadvisor too. I had Spaghetti Carbonara for 6,50 EUR. I mean real Carbonara, not that stuff Italian Restaurants serve in Germany. We came back the next evening too, not just for the amazing food and the nice atmosphere. It was the location: almost opposite of our hotel.

Tag drei gehörte dem Vatikan. Also Petersdom und Vatikanisches Museum. Man braucht tatsächlich fast den ganzen Tag wenn man beides in Ruhe machen möchte, auch wenn man nicht anstehen muss.
Ich würde mich jetzt nicht als gottesfürchtig bezeichnen, doch die Spiritualität, welche von diesem Ort ausgeht ist einfach phänomenal. Also Gläubig oder nicht, hier muss man hin.
Auch hier sieht man auf dem Foto wieder die Wartenschlangen, welche man mit dem Rom Pass bequem umgehen kann. Auch hier ist nicht der Eintritt sondern die Taschenkontrolle das Zeitraubende.

The third day was Vatican-Day. St. Peter’s and Vatican Museum. We needed alomost the whole day to explore everything – without lining up of course.
I wouldn’t call myself very religious but this is such a spiritual place. So religious or not, go there.
Again you can see at the picture below the huge line that we skipped easily with our Rome Pass. And again it’s not the entrance fee but the security control that makes the people line up.

Einen traumhaften Abend nach diesem wundervollen Tag verbrachten wir beim Pantheon. Von 27-25 v. Chr. von Markus Agrippa erbaut. Verbrachten die Zeit mit Schlendern durch die Gassen um das Pantheon und einem oder zwei gemütlichen Aperol Sprizz bei einem Lokal an der Piazza davor. 

We had a wonderful evening at the Pantheon after this wonderfuld day at the Vatican. The Pantheon was built from Markus Agrippa from 27-25 b. Chr. We spend the evening with wandering through the small streets there and having a few Aperol Sprizz at the square in front of this amazing building.

Da dies unser letzter Abend war, sind wir ganz gemütlich bei Dunkelheit zurück zum Hotel. Rom bei Nacht, unfassbar!

As this were our last eveing, we strolled back to the hotel and enjoyed Rome at night! (Yes, unbelievable!)

Den Morgen unseres Abreisetages nutzten wir noch für den San Giovanni in Laterno, den Laternenpalast, erbaut 314-318 n. Chr. und Papstsitz bis 1309. Morgens um 8.30 gehörte uns dieser quasi allein.
Danach sind wir noch zu den kapitolonischen Museen. Diese sperren um 10 Uhr auf, und auch dort waren wir quasi allein. Beides definitiv sehenswert!

We used the morning of our departure day for visiting San Giovanni in Laterno, the Lateranpalace, built 314-318 a. Chr. and the pope’s „headquater“ till 1309. At 8.30 a.m. the place was all ours.
Afterwards we went to the Capitolone Museums. They opened up at 10 a.m. and it was all ours again. Both worth to visit!

 

Danke Rom, du warst gut zu uns. Ob ich wieder komme ich gar nicht die Frage, nur wann ist noch ungewiss.
